Vengeance of the Brogendenstein Dwarves

From Encyclopedia Arelithica 3.0

*This book is bound in dragon-hide leather, and bears an image in beaten silver of a full-face Dwarven battle helm, made to resemble Clangeddin Silverbeard the Dwarven Father of Battles. Dethek runes adorning the visage*

Herein lies the answered Grudges of I, Baradun Son of Haradun Blood of Baraduner of the House of Tharaduner of the Clan Ironshield of the Hold of Adbarrim called Citadel Adbar. Note that these are only the records of Settled Grudges, and that the Great Eternal Grudges of the Dwarves are still unanswered.

Lo, on or about the First of Alturiak in AR 49 did I make recompense Upon the Drow who Slew my Brother Dagner.Through cowardly magics did they Lay Him Low, as told me by Warden Tok of the Clan Minecarver. I Swore this Grudge in AR 47 and Strove for Two Years to Put Pay to this Grudge. Aiding me in this were Fellow Samman of the Golden Halls of Brogendenstein; the Warden Tok of Clan Minecarver, Kuld Glognar of Clan Halitt, Sonnlinor and Holy Hammer of Moradin Rugnan Rogansson of Clan Ironbelly of Citadel Adbarrim, Kuld Lagnar of Clan Fireforge, Kuld Morn Morgrimsson of Clan Bloodbeard, and Kuld Gunethar called Trollbait. So it was a Throng of Seven did Descend into the Underdark to make Glorious Battle Upon the Drow.

So it was we Marched and then Put Pay to many Drow of an unknown and now destitute house. They sought to strike from afar in their cowardly manner with bows and foul spells from their Spider-Slag. We fought in Clangeddin's Name with Courage and Honor, overwhelming and slaying them all, and with Steel and Fire and Battle Prayers did we destroy their house. With Vengeance did I claim the head of their so-called high priestess. Alagh Findar Samman!

Lo, on or about Ches Fifth in AR 51 did Dwarves answer the Grudge against the greenskins who did despoil Zihothgazahn Ziazgath (Crystal Caves in Common) of the Golden Halls of Brogendenstein, then Held by Thane and Clanlaird Gorann called Scar of the House of Iron Anvil of the Clan Bloodletter. The Grudge was Laid when these foul bugbears, goblins and orcs did attempt to lay claim to the Valley of Brogendenstein. Let the record show that twere Sonnlinor and Holy Hammer of Moradin Rugnan Rogansson of Clan Ironbelly of Citadel Adbar, Delvesonn Dirge of Clan Ironheart,Alaghor and Kuld Bognar of Clan Brulix, Kuld Morn Morgrimsson of Clan Bloodbeard, Highlander Ronus of Clan Stonehammer, Kuld Tacdar of Clan Hullen and I, Alaghor and Kuld Baradun Haradunsson of Clan Ironshield, who did March to make Glorious Battle upon the Foes of the Golden Halls.

So it was our Throng Fought in our favored environment, the solid Stone of our Beloved Mountain home. Under the Highlander's experienced eye did we meet many greenskin and their ilk, calling down the wrath of their Foul and weak gods upon us. With wrack and ruin did we lay into them, Clangeddin's Holy Strength did ensure our victory. Whether gobbi, bugbear or their summoned minions, the challenge was but little within. Whereupon we did enter the valley floor, to fight the true threat. Here it was we formed our Line of Battle, here it was we slew many Tens of Orcs who bore a single eye, mark of their ill-fated godling! So it was we Restored the Valley to the ownership of our Thane! Splendarr Rorn!

Lo, on or about Uktar Twentieth in AR 53 did the Filth of the Black Hand dare capture and torture Sonnlinor Rugnan in the village called Wharftown.

So it was that Thane Gorann called Scar of Clan Bloodletter did lead his Throng of Samman. Let the record show it was Sonnlinor Gimarok of Clan Stormaxe, Kuld Grimmer of Clan Stormaxe, Kuld Lagnar, Highlander Skullcleaver of the Blackrock Clan, Highlander Grumlosh of the Blackrock Clan, and I Alaghor and Kuld Baradun who did March to the Southern Gate of Wharftown and Demand Freedom for our Kinsdwarf. The Dishonorable and Reviled Grendal Bloodwater did attempt to parlay, but Thane Scar was resolute. So it was that Sonnlinor Rugnan was returned to us by the Justice of the Morndinsamman which we did carry out.

Not two days later did Bloodwater himself err greatly and dared set foot on Brogendenstein Stone. This same group did then dispatch his pathetic followers and take him, wounded, to a Cell in Brogendenstein where he did await Trial. Charged with High Crimes Against the Dwarves, he was Imprisoned, stripped of all his Goods, made to Pay a great sum of Gold, and was Forever Banished from Any and All Brogendenstein lands and the lands of Dwarven Allies, upon Pain of Death. Kulds High and Hammers Low!

Lo, on or about Hammer First in AR 55, did the Throng of Brogendenstein travel forth onto the Red Dragon Isle. Our Eternal Grudge against evil Wyrms and Giantkind did we seek to put pay to! But more directly were we there to Answer the Death of a Kinsdwarf, who was found beyond saving and beyond recognition after washing ashore in Wharftown. He bore wounds of Dragon Claw and Giant hammer!

Let the record show that twere Skullcleaver of the Blackrock clan, Alaghor and Kuld Baradun Haradunsson Ironshield, Kuld Dwain of Clan Morduum called The Axebringer, Kuld Glognar of Clan Halitt, Runebinder Xartash of Silverymoon and Pathfinder Tulin of Clan Iron Anvil. With chants to Clangeddin upon our beards did we meet the fire giant clan of the isle in battle. Fierce and powerful were our foes, but we proved the fiercer. The giants strove to entrap us, surrounding us, but we locked shields and stood strong, withstood our injuries and fought on. As we pressed toward our goal, the Dumathoin-blessed deposits of Truesilver and precious gems, we met more foes and dispatched them with the fury honed by years of batte. Finally did we venture deeper into the underground, into the lairs of the venerable Red Wyrms themselves. The foul cultists were swept away by our steel, and the dragons numbered Twelve. So it was Twelve we slew that day. Climbing atop their backs and slashing through their skulls or using the power of runes to lay them low, the Wyrmslayer was truly with us as battle chants rose from our lines.

Lo did we come Upon the Ancient Red Wyrm known by the title Abbazur. Mighty was He but Mightier was our Throng, as We battled in the name of the Rock of War, to make our Ancestors proud.

As that last and Most Ancient Dragon fell we saw to our eternal gratitude the veins of Mithril.Praising Dumathoin's name we added the ore to our gatherings and setting our feet firmly for the Gold deposit, made ready to complete our journey. Twas then we found ourselves again facing a Horde of giants. We bulled our way through their attempt at a front line, cleaving our way to the sorcerous witch among them. Once her head was struck from her body we took the gift of Gold and then, praising each other and Clangeddin for a truly Righteous Battle, did we use the arcane portal and return to our Mighty Mountain.

Lo, on or about the Fifth of Tarskah AR 56 did the Dwarves of Brogendenstein discover a foulness at their Gates. A crudely made vase of stone depicting a gnoll standing over a battlefield with slain foes including dwarven beards had been left nearby. After a moot it was decided-the Militia available would go to the Stonehold ruins with the vase and confront the dogfaces. So did Warden Lagnar Fireforge, Alaghors and Kulds Baradun Ironshield and Bognar Brulix, Kuld Glognar Halitt and kuld Tacdar Hullen venture through the Zihothgazahn Ziazgath slaying many foes along the way. Upon reaching the gnolls did we present the vase and demand satisfaction. They stared as the dumb dogs they be, and so we destroyed that abomination. When we announced our plan to visit their brethren in Minmir their tails tucked between legs.

The Minmir Caves have long been crowded by all manner of beasts, from gnolls to so-called Banites to a family of great black wyrms. We traveled for a day through the caves, expertly dispatching our foes and following the stalwart Warden. The gnolls fought without a clear battle plan, charging us in what I deemed 'packs' and attempting to hold our advance. They broke like water upon stone. Along the way we availed ourselves of Dumathoin's gifts and perfected our formations, since the enemy hardly gave a threat.

By the time we reached the final level of the deep caves our weapons and beards were bathed in blood. Twas then we faced the creatures known as Shovelheads or bulletes in the Common tongue. And then the great black wyrm was upon us. We stood fast against it's buffets, we shouted our oaths against death and we slew that beast with the fury of Clangeddin. We left in our wake a pile of gnoll bodies, blood and fur matting our armor. Twas something they shall not soon forget. Splendar Rorn!
