Sibayad News - Sibayad
HEADLINE: Skeletons in your Baths
The Town of Sibayad has beefed up its defenses, our lovely river port being no exception. It was a good call from the Sibayad Council as just following Captain Krakscragger, the undead sea captain, took interest in the sands. The town's precious water supply was poisoned by this tall skeleton's powers. Vizier Helbrecht informs, "If you believe you may have been affected, drink an Ironguts potion and contact a healer as soon as possible."
Following Project Clarity, a rush was made to finalize last second pipe laying and completion of the system to assist in the cleansing of the water. Viceroy Aetherforge's rush job was met with undead storming the town and Aquafiers, the Skeleton Captain himself appearing. Viceroy Aetherforge is now in medical care following the confrontation, we hope for a swift recovery.
The Gilded Mirage offers free food and water during this crisis, found in the Bazaar or tavern itself.
Strife Outside of Sibayad
The underdark city of Andunor has upped the ante against the island of Arelith. Raids are reported to be occurring regularly, directed towards the City of Guldorand and counter raids against the City of Andunor. Caution is advised.
In a statement by former Commander Ruharin, he explains; "Sibayad is a hub of trade and our island is located in relative distance to heart of strife, however, I know our peoples conduct trade near and far to these places. Take special care when visiting City of Guldorand or Andunor, or their surrounding regions."
The Wolf at your Back
Spoken about in passing and referenced as some historic event, it is known that the lycanthrope pack is a glossed over stain on the sands, at least according to Sibayadi officials. Rumors flow that they helped a now-gone House of Sharrans, known as House Loslansirans. Those ties seem to have gotten the wolf-turners into hot water after an attempted coup by House Loslansirans, and now they are barely welcome in Sibayad. In truth, the fort seemed to change into the pack's hands after the House of Shades faded off.
Worrying more, these shape changers are reported to have attacked trade partners in the past, from Guldorand and Myon. While the elves offer fake smiles, the idea of their people being hunted can't be good for relations.
Are these were-beasts a danger to Sibayad, or are they trying to find their own way?
Lucky Number Seven
A quiet change, but some citizens have come to notice an increase in Sibayad's tax rate from five percent to seven percent. Could this mean the town is struggling to turn a profit? Maybe the council is hiking the prices to pad their pockets.
What is known is that this increase means merchants and home tenders will be paying a bit more for their time under the endless sun.
The Cat That Copies
Following our recent first edition, a number of additional papers have flooded the boards. Shall they put forth the effort to remain consistent, or do they have their own agendas and a flight of fancy?
The Oasis shall remain the Prime Sibayadi news source, delivered to our own island and soon to nearby trade partners.
Location Spotlight: Fumaroles
Found in the caves and caverns that run from the River Port to the Town of Sibayad, a section of the caverns are overtaken by the boil of magma and the vents of steam. The Fumaroles of the caverns are home to many heat-loving creatures, from blazing fire elementals to testy reptilians. This part of the underground tunnels may seem dangerous for surely it is, but it can be quite the treasure. Shards of obsidian prods itself above the sands, and gems of fire agate appear to form easily in the heat.
Towards the center, one can even witness what seems to be some ritualistic meeting area, or perhaps even a shrine. Don't tell the Merchant League, or they may take it as a temple!
