The Castemont Wedding: Cordor's Favored Son Ties Knot
Day 4, Month 9 (Eleint), 181 AR
In a union that beautifully melded tradition with high society, Thomas Castemont, the esteemed Vice Chancellor of Cordor, and Alaina Castemont, a prominent figure in Cordor's government and civil society, celebrated their marriage in a spectacular ceremony. The intimate affair, set against the picturesque backdrop of Nexus Falls at the Radiant Heart Keep, was a testament to their love and their enduring connection to Cordor and and its people.
Alaina Castemont captivated the gathering in her striking red and white kimono-style dress from Kara-Tur, embodying elegance and cultural diversity. Thomas Castemont, complementing his bride's grace, was the epitome of chivalric splendor in his polished silver armor, with an ornate ceremonial katana by his side, a symbol of his status and the martial traditions of the realm.
The wedding reception, held at the renowned Nomad Tavern, was a grand affair that buzzed with excitement. Lavishly decorated, the tavern offered an exotic buffet featuring delectable curries from Kara-Tur and the finest Tethyrian liquors. Alaina Castemont's well known culinary expertise clearly influenced the outstanding selection of unique foods and beverages that were served throughout the reception. The event was not just a celebration of the Castemonts' union but also a showcase of Cordor's culinary wonders and cultural richness.
The reception was a veritable who's who of Cordorian society, with high-ranking officials and notable figures in attendance. The Rivorndirs were present, with Khara'gos delivering a heartfelt toast that resonated with the attendees, symbolizing the enduring friendship of the two powerful families. Chancellor Ginny Rivorndir was also in attendance, engaging in deep discussions with various guests, signifying the intertwining of celebration and statecraft.
Adding to the event's uniqueness, Cordor's most famous bard, Cal Quinn, tended the bar, his shirtless attire drawing considerable attention. His presence brought an air of whimsy and charm, as he served drinks as hard as his abdominal muscles. Always quick with a joke and a song, Cal once again occupied his traditional niche as the life of the party.
The night was filled with laughter, joy, and peculiar entertainment as size-altering potions made their rounds. In a humorous turn of events, Thomas Crumpet, the Editor in Chief of the Cordor Press, grew larger than Vice-Chancellor Castemont, who had amusingly shrunk to a dimunitive size. This playful use of magic not only lightened the atmosphere but also showcased the unique blend of magic and wonder that defines Cordor.
As the night drew to a close, the newlyweds were surrounded by friends, well-wishers, and dignitaries, all reveling in the joy of the occasion. The wedding of Thomas and Alaina Castemont was not just a union of two hearts but a symbol of Cordor's vibrant culture, political power, and the magical charm that permeates its society.
Shadows of the Past: The Derlson's Dark Secrets
Day 16, Month 8 (Elasias (Highsun)), 181 AR
CORDOR - The Derlson family, one of the founding pillars of Cordor's high society, is embroiled in a controversy that could shake the very foundations of their noble lineage. Recent investigations undertaken by the intrepid journalists of the Cordor Press have unearthed chilling secrets that lurk behind the family's esteemed facade, including ghostly apparitions, historical wrongdoings, and a mysterious prisoner held against his will.
Spectral Twins Haunt the Derlson Estate
Amidst the opulent halls of the Derlson family estate, whispers of a ghastly presence have long circulated. Sources close to the family reveal that the spirits of Imogen and Lena, twin daughters from a bygone era, wander the corridors, their young lives tragically cut short by poisoning at the hands of a malevolent stepfather. These restless souls, unseen yet deeply felt, cast a shadow over the Derlson's illustrious name, hinting at a history marred by treachery and despair. In spite of their ongoing presence, the family does not seem to have retained the services of a cleric or priest to help ease the passing of these lost apparitions. While allowing spirits to manifest of their own volition is not technically necromancy, the family's permissive attitude raises serious questions about their adherence to Cordorian legal codes.
Lady Stella and Lady Anna Derlson: Heiresses to a Haunted Legacy
The current residents of the estate, Lady Stella and Lady Anna Derlson, live amidst these spectral rumors. While both sisters are known for their love of art and sewing, with Lady Anna poised to inherit the family fortune, it is whispered that they are uncomfortably aware of their home's eerie inhabitants. While Lady Anna is blessed with a poise that her younger sister, Stella, seems to lack, no amount of social grace can cover up the fact that specters wander the upper floors of Cordor's most esteemed estate. Corospondence obtained from the family's closest staff members indicate that the household servants are also deeply unsettled by the persistent tolerance of undead spirits, going so far as to alter their nightly routines.
Lord Harrod Derlson: A Passion for Hunting or a Distraction from the Past?
Lord Harrod Derlson, the patriarch, renowned for his hunting prowess, seems more engrossed in his trophies and tales than addressing the dark rumors surrounding his family. Some speculate that his obsession with the hunt is a deliberate diversion from the grim realities lurking within his estate. Furthermore, his collection of hunting trophies borders on the obsessive. Could it be that his thinly concealed bloodlust is a manifestation of the same questionable morality that leads him to tolerate the existence of undead within his very home?
The Family Tomb: A Monument to a Sinister Past
To get to the bottom of this story, this exclusive Cordor Press investigation explored the Derlson family tomb, where inscriptions and relics suggest a history intertwined with the illicit practice of slavery, a heinous act outlawed in Cordor. Within the family's crypts, there appears to be a memorial, possibly built atop a mass grave, dedicated to the servants and SLAVES who have served the family. This revelation casts a long shadow over the family's legacy, suggesting a past rife with moral corruption and exploitation.
An Unidentified Prisoner: A Cry for Justice from Within the Estate
As if to reinforce the family's questionable past treatment of human beings, a shocking discovery has been made on the grounds of the Derlson estate. Reliable sources have provided conclusive, irrefutable evidence that the Derlson family is currently holding an unidentified man captive within their estate, in blatant defiance of Cordorian law. This man is being kept confined in a tiny cell, under appalling conditions. He is so malnourished as to be unresponsive to any attempts at rendering aid. There are no records of his imprisonment, and the fact that he is jailed within a private estate, rather than the city's dungeon, raises serious questions about the family's adherence to justice, due process, and their treatment of those outside their noble circle.
As the community grapples with these revelations, the Derlson family finds itself at a crossroads. Will they confront and atone for the sins of their past, or will they continue to be haunted by ghosts of their own making? The eyes of Cordor, and indeed all of Arelith, are now firmly fixed on the Derlson estate, awaiting the unraveling of these unsettling truths.

EDITORIAL: Brogendenstein Ends Diplomatic Ties With Cordor
Day 14, Month 7 (Flamerule (Summertide)), 181 AR
CORDOR - Over the past few days, there have been a flurry of announcements related to the fraying of diplomatic ties between the Dwarven stronghold of Brogendenstein and the city of Cordor. Citing Cordor's ongoing trade relations with, and tolerance of, Duergar merchants, Brogendenstein has ended formal diplomatic relations, and has announced its intention to restrict trade with Cordor.
Historically, Cordor has cultivated a reputation for its open gates and markets, where individuals of all decent, non-monstrous races - including the often-marginalized Duergar - find a warm welcome. As accusations and ultimatums are voiced by Brogendenstein, Cordor's leadership reiterates its commitment to open trade policies and a belief in the resilience of its people. This steadfastness serves as a reminder of our city's core values.
The government of Cordor, in representation of its people, feels that free and open trade is one of the best ways to ensure peace, and to help individuals from diverse walks of life to better learn about and understand one another. Just as Cordor tolerates Duergar, it has also been a beacon of religious tolerance throughout the land. This even applies to the controversial Dwarven diety Abbathor, who embodies trickery and deceit, and is motivated by greed and the lust for wealth and treasure.
Cordor has long affirmed its support for Brogendenstein in the past. When Brogendenstein aligned itself with foreign powers and pirates during the recent naval conflict between Waterdeep and Amn, Cordor continued to welcome diplomatic ties with the Dwarven city. Similarly, while many in Cordor are not comfortable with the Dwarven ritual killings of unarmed Orcish prisoners during military ceremonies, the city has nevertheless supported Brogendenstein in its time of need.
As Arelith's largest, most diverse metropolis, Cordor understands that not everyone will see eye to eye on every issue. But Chancellor Rivorndir, and the rest of our leadership, maintain that the city is well positioned military, economically, and politically, to withstand any turbulence ahead. And in doing so, the city shall continue to serve as a shining beacon for tolerance and acceptance throughout the Arelith archipelago.
