Interview with Jaslyn Naethandreil - Roznik Naethandreil

From Encyclopedia Arelithica 3.0

[Context: Arael Laceflower was trained by the first priest of Cordoria, Vincent Arlemeyer. She was bequeathed two artifacts; the Shield of Cordoria and the Eye of Cordor. The Eye was a Holy amulet that allegedly granted the users visions of the past concerning Cordor and Cordorians however the user would be significantly weakened when leaving the territory of influence. Neither artifact has been found since her assassination.

Roznik Naethandreil was a Cordorian Councilor, owner of the Nomad, and famous Hoarite that hunted down and took vengeance on enemies of Cordor and the Island. He is believed to have been instrumental in creating the Shrine of Hoar that stood for decades at Nexus Falls before it was picked apart after his death.]

Arael Laceflower: I'd appreciate it if you can share anything you remember. I've only ever seen him on two occasions.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Can I ask first why is it you wish to know about him?

Arael Laceflower: He was a Cordorian. How could I not want to know more? From what I've seen from him, he was a good Cordorian; always trying harder and always working to make the environment around him better.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: He was only a Cordorian because Myon threw him out. However, he did live here for a number of years before his death so perhaps it is here he wished to be remembered for.

Arael Laceflower: That's the story of many Cordorians. This is a place of new starts where you will find many that were cast out, fled or simply left their previous home. It makes them no less ours. He was good friends with one of our most honored Cordorians; Nautilus. And if I know nothing else about your brother, to know that his friends loved him as much as they did, is enough to show the measure of the man.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Yes....although some will say that was a dark time of his life, since Nautilus took him down places others wished him not to go.

Arael Laceflower: I'd like to hear about that, then.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: He could be a cruel man something that was nurtured from our background I'm sure. I do not know when he first met Nautilus but I believe it was about the time he owned the Nomad. Before it burnt down. As you no doubt know Nautilus was a Hoarite, and my brother had always had a stubborn streak in him and a wish for vengeance, again brought from our past.

He believed his inaction caused me injury and was the reason our village.....well you don't need to know about that for the moment, needless to say my brother felt he needed to atone. So they became friends. They travelled the island spreading the word of Hoar, paying particular attention to those they felt had wronged them. That included the group that Katar was part of.

Arael Laceflower: Mhm. Katar was a group unto himself.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Although memory illudes me if that was partly Banites, and chaos in general.

Arael Laceflower: Katar worked with Banites but he worked with everyone. Naet's feud was mostly with him, though. I still haven't managed to find the spot of their last fight. Do you know where it was?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Nexus Falls.

Arael Laceflower: That's far from the Kingdom....

Jaslyn Naethandreil: They also fought in numerous times within the city but I believe the beheading took place there.

Arael Laceflower: Do you recall his time as Councilor?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: We were.....not speaking at that point, I had married someone he did not approve of and so he had made his dislike clear causing me to leave Cordor and move to Wharftown for a while. As far as I am aware, he wasn't maimed or removed from office so I believe it went well for him.

Arael Laceflower: It did. Historic even.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Although the Nomad burned down.

Arael Laceflower: It was set on fire by Krad but I don't believe it burnt all the way. At least, not when I saw it.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: No, it didn't and it gave him something else to talk about.

Arael Laceflower: What do you mean 'something else to talk about'?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: He was very focused on his 'work' with Nautilus

Arael Laceflower: Your speech makes me think that you didn't think their work was important.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: It was to him, and perhaps to others but to maim people as a way of retribution? I disagreed greatly with that.

Arael Laceflower: Who in particular do you recall them maiming?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: He had spent years searching for me, and when I was rescued he celebrated by becoming a Hoarite who mutilated people.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: I do not remember the name but they chained him up by the small house in Nexus

Arael Laceflower: Do you recall what he might have done?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: No. His hand was removed. But tell me what good is removing limbs for good? Hoar is very much an eye for an eye however all it does is cause fear and spread distaste and hate.

Arael Laceflower: Depends what it was done for. Punishments should fit the crime.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: I would understand that if he had been consistent. He was not

Arael Laceflower: Every crime is different. You can't expect a Hoarite, who relies on poetic justice, to be consistent in the generic sense.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: But there were some that were never punished. When they should have been the ones first on his list.

Arael Laceflower: Maybe but he wasn't a one man army. You pick the fights that you can take and that touch your heart the closest. You said he was thrown from Myon. Was this because he married the King's Mistress?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: No it was because he killed a kin. And left a Underdarker alive.

Arael Laceflower: Can you tell me what happened?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: From what I have heard, yes. He was on patrol with the Black Archers when they came across a patrol of Underdarkers. He was at the time looking for information about me so didn't wish to kill them all. When a single Underdarker was left alive he stepped in the way of one of the archers preventing the creature from being killed. But to keep it alive he had to turn on his own men slaying one of them. He was allowed back into the city once more when they agreed to take me in after Cordor threatened to behead me.

Arael Laceflower: Why did Cordor want your head?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Because they thought I was going to bring an army of the Underdark down onto them.

Arael Laceflower: Do you recall anything else that stands out for you about his life?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: I remember his screams.

Arael Laceflower: When he was captured?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: But....I also remember his smile when we saw one another for the first time after the attack.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Yes, it was when the elementals were pinning him against the wall as I stood pinned in stone in the centre.

Arael Laceflower: Can you tell me about that?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: You wish to hear about our time below?

Arael Laceflower: Only how he got there and how he got out.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: He got there because he wandered below to try and get captured. He escaped because the Matron of the house, my mistress liked him and left an armoury open with a single bow and some food and water.

Arael Laceflower: Well, he was very likable. Hm. I don't have any other questions. Is there anything else you might recall?

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Recall about him? I have many things I have not talked about. But not knowing what you wish to know I can not speak of such.

Arael Laceflower: Oh, I wish to know anything. It will make it easier for me to see him.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: See him? You realise he is dead

Arael Laceflower: I do but that doesn't stop my blessings from showing him to me, if I'm in the right place. But he has proven very hard to find. I imagine it is because the city has changed so much and because most of his work was away.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: I do not understand what is it you are trying to do?

Arael Laceflower: I'm gathering what I can about him for the city, so that he can be remembered for the great Cordorian that he was.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Well if you wish to see him there is a painting within Myon

Arael Laceflower: They would still keep art of him? I would love to see it.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: Those that shunned him from the city have since died

Arael Laceflower: I don't generally go out that far but I will look into it. Thank you.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: It is of him within the Nomad I believe.

Arael Laceflower: I know his likeness well. Its his deeds that I'm interested in. If you have any further stories to share, that come to mind, I would love to hear them.

Jaslyn Naethandreil: I will think upon such. As you may have guessed we weren't exactly the best of friends for most of our lives. We didn't see each other when I had been captured. Not for many years but he was blood.

Arael Laceflower: Well, he was a good man. You may not think so, but he was. Thank you for sharing with me.
