Amadeo Interview - Curse of Nebankh

From Encyclopedia Arelithica 3.0

[Context: Arael Laceflower was trained by the first priest of Cordoria, Vincent Arlemeyer. She was bequeathed two artifacts; the Shield of Cordoria and the Eye of Cordor. The Eye was a Holy amulet that allegedly granted the users visions of the past concerning Cordor and Cordorians however the user would be significantly weakened when leaving the territory of influence. Neither artifact has been found since her assassination.]

Arael Laceflower: I had a vision of you and I was hoping to ask you some questions. You were standing outside the Temple of Torm...there was a well there and many people around. Someone yelled that the water was now poisoned and there were bloody Ankhs on the cobbles. But you walked up to the well and drank from it anyway then you confirmed to the others that it was diseased.

Amadeo Pneuma: 'Ankhs'.

Arael Laceflower: The little loopy crosses. Do you remember that?

Amadeo Pneuma: Yes.

Arael Laceflower: Really? That was a very long time ago. I thought maybe your order has the same...outfit style.

Amadeo Pneuma: Ilmatari typically wear grey. The mask is my own. Two things you must consider. What sent this vision, and why.

Arael Laceflower: Oh, well, I asked, sort of. I only have copies of notes from that time; one from a hinnish paladin; Fizzlebiscuits and the other from a Lantern Knight, Serafine but most of the city has cast that history aside because it was very difficult so I asked Our Lady for something to help me find answers. And...that's all I got. So I was hoping you might have a story of that time since you were there. I know that they contacted successfully Our Lady, Cordoria.

Amadeo Pneuma: Curious. You simply sought to chronicle that time.

Arael Laceflower: Yes. I suppose everyone else from then is dead so you were the best choice.

Amadeo Pneuma: There is a place you may not have consulted. The Nebankh tombs.

Arael Laceflower: I did, in a way but I'm not good with locks. I've put up a notice.

Amadeo Pneuma: For the best. I would advise taking the notice down.

Arael Laceflower: Take it down? What for? Its not illegal to hire a lockpick.

Amadeo Pneuma: The poisoned water was the beginning of a series of progressively harmful curses. These originated within the Tomb of Nebankh. As with most Mulhorandi ancestral tombs, this one had a contingent curse placed over it. And it would appear someone triggered the curse. Their identity remains unknown, though there was speculation at the time.

The Lady of Cordoria revealed the nature of the curse to a gathering that appealed to her. She stated that any heart of ill intent would suffice as an offering.

Arael Laceflower: What gave them the idea to call on her?

Amadeo Pneuma: She claimed the curse was not specific; that the guilty party need not be brought forward, simply anyone deemed 'vile' in the eyes of Nebankh's guardians.

Amadeo Pneuma: I do not recall. Hauntings, perhaps. I was not present for the resolution. I had attempted to pursue an alternate solution to the problems; one that did not involve an 'innocent' sacrifice.

Arael Laceflower: She has her ways of making Calls to souls she knows will hear her. Do you know who was sacrificed?

Amadeo Pneuma: I was later informed that one of the Lantern Knights forcefully brought a man named Jinn Nibaru to the crypt as a sacrifice. It was one day that I was too slow.

Arael Laceflower: But it saved the city?

Amadeo Pneuma: The curses subsided, yes.

Arael Laceflower: I have a letter from Serafine that says that Our Lady said she would fight the Guardian on behalf of the city. Do you know why they didn't choose that?

Amadeo Pneuma: A pragmatic choice. Impatience, perhaps. Doing so would have required a ritual.

Arael Laceflower: Hm. It could be a figure of speech, though. "She is willing to help us fight the Guardian of the Nebankh"

Amadeo Pneuma: The curse had grown progessively worse as time went on. The Knight in question acted alone. Marsael Enderson.

Arael Laceflower: I suppose that ends the telling, then. Was there anything else of that time that you remember?

Amadeo Pneuma: Mh. Not off hand. Your summons mentioned you were a priestess. Of what deity?

Arael Laceflower: Of Our Lady of Prosperity, Cordoria.

Amadeo Pneuma: Hm. Belief is a powerful thing. I wish you well.

Arael Laceflower: Prosperity find you!
