Update from the Cordorian Government - Nightal 180
Hello readers of the press! This is our first article in relation to the political on goings of the Cordorian Government, and boy it's a doozy! Chancellor Castemont was incredibly liberal with the information he gave in a clear attempt to make things transparent and open with the common folk of Cordor. Be sure to keep an eye out for opportunity as much of this information could be to your benefit! There's a lot to get through, so let's begin!
'Ministry of Culture'
The Cordorian Government is currently looking for skilled and savvy individuals to apply as Minister of Culture as well as Aides and Directors for the department. The window for application as Minister will close on the trine of Hammer 4-6, so if you're interested, you'd better get something together fast! Further details can be found on the Government Announcement Board in Cordor Square.
Additionally, Eillee Elmshire has taken over as Curator of the Museum and Art Gallery and will begin work on new exhibitions. Details to come in future articles!
'Ministry of Faith'
The Ministry of Faith is working toward holding regular lectures on various faiths. They are also working alongside High Guardian Kronan to prepare for the voting of Cordor's State Faiths!
For those unaware, Cordor at all times has six State Faiths, which are the main religions chosen to be represented by Cordor as, according to Chancellor Castemont, "a sign of respect and alignment to our values in line with our people." Three State Faiths are always locked in, and one is determined by the Ministry of Faith. However, the other two are up for popular vote with a few disclaimers. The dominant faiths of Cordor's past have been Helm, Waukeen, Kossuth, Tymora, and Ilmater, but Valkur and Yondalla are both currently State Faiths as well.
'Ministry of Education'
Lord-Minister Nyros Rivorndir is hosting several lectures on topics useful to both the common folk and adventurers. As an example, a past lecture has been performed on curses, and a future lecture will be given on Mount Celestia and the Celestial Hebdomad by Chancellor Casatemont himself on the trine of Hammer 7-9. There is also rumor of a future lecture on dragons, with the Minister's team working hard to gather more ideas and information to spread to the public.
'Ministry of Trade'
Lady Ellisaria Vhaire has handed in her resignation as Minister of Trade, a position the Cordorian Government will be looking to fill after finding a Minister of Culture.
However, the Cordorian Treasury is growing well and fixed salaries have been put in place for staff of the Cordorian Government and for sponsoring events such as the recent Tournament in Urshak's honor or events such as art auctions and fashion shows. The Ministry is equally dedicated to help Cordorians with business endeavors and support charitable organizations.
Additionally, Treasurer Ginny Rivorndir has made some announcements as to price changes in the Cordor warehouse. According to Chancellor Castemont, "Zinc can now be sold for more than before. Other prices have been adjusted to either put more gold in our people's pockets or prevent certain materials from being bought out too quickly to ensure all can have access to what they need." I aim to meet with Ginny to uncover the exact quirks and changes made for the warehouse for all the Arelithian merchants out there.
'The Guard'
Due to personal reasons, Lord Varfogar has resigned from his position as Guard Commander and High Guardian of Castle Darrowdeep and is reportedly returning home to Cormyr. Captain Iliquen Y'nalo will assume Command of the Guard and plans to focus on strengthening the defenses of Cordor.
'The Navy'
Captain Ravnhart Tir'enfein has assumed command of the Leviathan and has been building and training their crew. While the Leviathan's main goal is to defend the seas from enemies of Cordor, plans are in place to extend its use to hunt down slaver and prisoner ships within our borders with the purpose of killing the slavers and setting free the slaves.
'Security'
Chancellor Castemont announced that Lord Zenos Rivorndir has been appointed into the brand new position of Head of Security with his key responsibilities being the protection of the Chancellor in light of Guild contracts placed on his head and to identify foreign threats to the people of Cordor. When asked if this would mean tighter restrictions to Cordorian liberties, Chancellor Castemont claimed the full details of the position will be worked out in the coming month.
'Castle Darrowdeep'
As previously mentioned, Kronan has been appointed as High Guardian of Castle Darrowdeep, which continues to be Cordor's first line of defense. For those unaware, Castle Darrowdeep guards an entrance to the Underdark and so is committed to regular patrols around Castle grounds.
Chancellor Castemont also encourages those with the interest that Castle Darrowdeep is still available to host events, parties, ceremonies, you name it!
'Recent News'
Chancellor Castemont has reported that Amnian mages kidnapped a man by the name of Richas Tobin from the Cordorian Palace. Afterward, some of Cordor's diviners began to see visions of the kidnapping and later visions of Tobin being tortured by the Cowled Wizards of Amn. In response, the Cordorian guard began an investigation and after some time, according to Chancellor Castemont, "underwent an unsanctioned mission to delve deeper into the case." Unfortunately, the mission ended catastrophically with the deaths of thirty Amnians and Tobin nowhere to be found, though he was later reported to be safe and sound.
However, troubles for Cordor didn't end there as although Amn promised not to pursue things further the Cowled Wizards had other ideas. They placed a curse on two of the people who went on the unsanctioned mission with the attempt of a third that thankfully failed. The leading Cowled Wizard, known only as "S5" later attended the aforementioned lecture on curses held by the Ministry of Education. Chancellor Castemont was in attendance, and took the opportunity to request the dismissal of these curses, with S5's response being to move one of the previously placed curses onto the Chancellor himself. With the help of some capable people, such as Zalata, Lord Minister Nyros Rivorndir, Lady Ginny Rivorndir, Lady Alaina Voclain, and Cinders Char, the curse has successfully been removed from Chancellor Castemont. The other curse remains, but is being worked on and is "making good progress" according to the Chancellor.
Afterward, Chancellor Castemont sent a letter to King Edward Cordor asking for justice against S5. After some time, King Cordor sent his palace representative, Thomas Steed, to let Chancellor Castemont know that he was speaking with authorities in Amn who were themselves less than pleased. In the end, Amn agreed to hand over S5 for judgment who was found guilty of three high crimes against Cordor and was sentenced to death.
'External Threats'
Current leadership in Andunor consists of Lilith Vensurai, sometimes known as Domina of Greyport, and Drachbor the Orog who is Tyrant of the Sharps. Drachbor is known for his great aggression and bloodlust, and seems to be gathering forces for renewed raids on the surface, so be careful traveling at night, especially near Bendir Dale and in the Arelith Woods where Andunorians are known to strike. The Devil's Table has either recently lost its leader or is just finishing with its elections with the high likelihood that Faeris Zun'viir, formerly known as Faeris Orthae, is set to retake leadership.
Additionally, be on the lookout for Mephisto Skinslave, a previous Cordorian pariah and now collared slave of Andunor with a bald head and deformed face. Skinslave is a fiend-pacted warlock known to hunt writ workers, so be extra careful and try not to do writ work alone! A one time bounty is currently placed on Skinslave's head for 150,000 coins with the possibility of renewal should Skinslave be resurrected and continue his banditry. If anyone has further descriptors of the man, know of his potential allies, or are aware of other combat skills he may possess please contact the Cordor Guard or Cordorian public officials.
And that's our update for Nightal AR 180. Good luck to any of you who seek to make use of these opportunities, and please remember to take the External Threats section seriously! While Cordor isn't in any immediate danger, safety should always be a priority on Arelith!
Be well all!
