The Royal Lodestar Network: Security or Spying?
Within the last few days, a number of additional frameworks have appeared within the Cordor city; large, glowing orbs of crystal, surrounded by mirrors that focus light to the center and from within the sphere. These strange constructs were revealed to be part of the Royal Palace of Cordor's "Royal Lodestar Network", backed by Queen-Consort Lady Jennifer Eldren and aimed to make the city safer by way of permanently scrying the streets in order to look for trouble, mass gatherings, or problems before they become problems.
Some may remember this from the days of Chancellor Katernin Bersk and Vice-Chancellor Peram Flint, who began a similar initiative as part of the then-Chancellor's self-proclaimed Magocracy, where the common-folk and those without arcane ability were looked upon as second-class citizens, and expendable. The Queen maintains that this was an ingenious system however, one that proves Cordor's superiority and ingenuity.
But what of her kingdom's opinion? This Editor has heard many complaints, worries that they are being spied on once again by agents within the Government, and fears of just how this is used. How many areas are being watched? What safeguards are in place to stop enemies of the city from using it, or corrupt entities within the Guard furthering their own agendas with it? Who watches the watchers?
The Palace states that the benefits are to be focused on; that this system allows Guards faster response to any attacks, and to ease manpower needs by having the few watch the many. While the benefits of this system are clear, many are still scared by the looming spectre of the Bersk administration.
It's clear that this topic will be at the front of everyone's thoughts and concerns, so we'll be asking a number of you, the good public of Cordor, what your thoughts are about it. Keep an eye and an ear out for us, and you might end up in the Paper!

The Lodestar Network: Public Opinions
As mentioned in our previous article, the Cordor Press sought public opinion to see what receivement of the Lodestar Network was to the citizens of our city. The five Cordorians below were asked the simple question; "What are your opinions, if any, of Cordor's Lodestar Network?" Here are their answers;
- LT. Konstantin Helbrecht, Gauntlet: "Despite its origin, the addition of the Lodestar Network is a welcome change. It monitors places of public congregation that, in absence of the Network, could be monitored by guardsmen just as well. I do not see concerns raised about privacy so far as an issue. To the contrary - both the Guard and the Ministry of Justice's work are made easier. What in the past were difficult 'he said, she said' cases can now be confirmed by the Network, therefore reducing judgements made on falsehoods."
- CPT Khal-Dun, Sailor: "Never much good comes of scryin'. Some things are best to time and chance."
- Morgan Hart, Bartender: "There were already city guards where they put the lodestars, so... it isn't really any more surveillance than there was before."
- Andus Kaltherian, Adventurer: "I am in favor of it. It does sound quite useful, and a potential deterrent to crime. The guard is not omniscient, but this is one step closer, at least, within Cordor. I think the more eyes the guard has, the better."
- Ingram Mensen, Adventurer: "Truly, has -any- crime been stopped by this network? The citizens have no idea who, or when, the eye is upon them. I do not trust the follies of men to stay on focus for too long."
Five very different Cordorians with five very different opinions. We bring these opinions to you with the hopes that you may see your own voice represented and echoed in these statements, in our never-ending quest to ensure that the public have their voices represented. Bad or good, concerns or compliments, the people must be heard.
As always, your friend in the Press,

Passing of the Torches
A day of inaugurations graced the archipelago earlier, two ceremonies with a passing of power, authority, and responsibility - one in Myon, one in Cordor.
In chronological order, the first was that of Myth Myon's new Coronal; Nicir Ellenocen. A beautiful event that saw Karathas ordaining the new Coronal in the river of Myon, to the majestic sound of a choir's chorus. Crystal-clear waters passed the two, flanked by noble statues of the Seldarine. To spread and protect joy and merriment among the Fair Kin, to guard them against threats both within and without, and to safeguard all that they value.
Food and drink flowed plentiful and freely after the peaceful ceremony, but a few hours after it, another inauguration took place in more homely territory, back in the Walled City of Cordor.
Secondly, Konstantin Helbrecht became the new High Watcher of the Church of Helm and the Gauntlet. Held in their temple in Cordor, Emma Young lead the ceremony that saw High-Watcher Helbrecht ordained, after a number of vows to uphold the tenets and scripture of Helm, to be a protector of the weak and needy, and to be a shield against the darkness. After it, an after-party was held in the Lotus with even more food and drink, dancing and speeches.
Emma Young stated that the day would also be a series of goodbyes, as she plans on returning to Waterdeep with her fianc e to raise their child. We at the Press wish them, High-Watcher Konstatin Helbrecht, and Coronal Nicir Ellenocen, a long and successful reign in their corresponding positions. Their people look to them for guidance and safety, and it is our hope that no voices will go unanswered while they are in position to answer them.

High-Sheriff Hillside Interview: Accords Apart - Vol I
The interview takes place in Guldorand's caf , recently changed ownership with a breath of new life and energy. High-Sheriff Kesa Hillside elects to sit on the plush carpets, I assume in fear that the ornate Human-sized seats may break if she, a tall Firbolg, descends into one. Joining us are Veisha and Sirius, friends and co-workers of the High-Sheriff, as we all enjoy a cup of delicious coffee and some light snacks before the interview begins.
Press (P): "Thank you for taking the time to speak with the Press, High Sheriff. Let us begin with the point on everyone's mind; what lead to your decision to have Guldorand leave the Axehold Accords?"
- At this point, High-Sheriff Hillside ponders a moment before withdrawing a written letter from her bags and reading it aloud. It is part of her campaign Agendas, but the overall theme is that the Axehold Accords as current breaks with the High Council's edict that only they may choose when to go to war, not when a pre-existing agreement says so.
P: "So, in essence; because only the Founder's Council can dictate when to go to war. Being forced into it by way of a previous agreement breaks the Founder's Council's edicts?"
H: "That and their desire from foreign influence. The Founders are also very clear on what races and people we can fight against, the Accords left that door wide open. Those three reasons are why Guldorand left the Accords to follow more limited and direct treaties with our allies."
P: "Given that Guldorand has 'terminated trade and treaty' with Cordor, does that mean you no longer consider Cordor an ally?"
H: "I might ask the same of Cordor after reading your Chancellor's post calling for an overthrow of my administration. But no, Cordor is not friend nor foe at this point."
P: "I can't speak for the Chancellor, but the Axehold on the other hand does hold the vastly popular opinion of being a mostly defensive pact, for the benefit of all."

High-Sheriff Hillside Interview: Accords Apart - Vol II
H: "The Accords served their purpose, I will not deny that, but Guldorand has changed. Such is the way of things. Nothing can remain forever. We offer the same defence pact, though updated, to Bendir and Brog both. Myon as well when they settle their affairs in leadership."
P: "Ignoring the Chancellor's statement for now, your main issue with Cordor was the Lodestones? Can you elaborate why, or if there are any more hidden troubles?"
H: "You are aware this is not the first time Cordor has had these Lodestars, yes?"
P: "It is, but this current edition is far less intrusive than the originals, and it also lacks the magocracy that controlled them and the public with an iron fist."
H: "Perhaps, but with this leader, and what about the next? I was not impressed with the history of their last use, nor do I trust Cordor's future leaders to be wise in their use. The Founders also place the freedoms and rights of the person above all else. Thus why we have the Freeport and the Charter."
"What example would we be to talk of rights and freedom and then support such a king? There are times when one must draw a line and stand for what is right. This is such a time."
P: "What freedoms do you consider invaded? The Lodestone is only a monitoring tool, and only in public areas where guards would be otherwise."
H: "I can call a sword a paper-weight until it is lifted to stab somebody. Do you honestly trust your King and his 'Queen', plus the elected leaders to not abuse such a tool?"
At this point, Veisha (V), signals she wishes to speak. Kesa gives her a nod.
V: "There are collars in the Dark that have also been said to do as what is described here. If not in use, they certainly have been tested."
P: "Slave collars may monitor the slave, but they are still slave collars. The Lodestone does not force anyone within the city to act a certain way, or punish them for breaking the law. They must still be witnessed by a guard."

High-Sheriff Hillside Interview: Accords Apart - Vol III
V: "Which, then renders the point of why they're redundant, no? Why not just have mages constantly scry? Same effect, same purpose. The difference is that, unlike a mage, you know the Lodestar is always there."
P: "Because one guard can now, effectively, monitor the public areas of Cordor in a few moments. Before, you would need a team of scryers or guards."
H: "We may debate the back and forth of the devices all day, but it does not change my stance. I do not feel the Founder's would support such a thing, and thus nor will I. If I may be so bold, the response from your elected leader to my statement, which was presented with respect and decorum, was less than reassuring. As surely as I will one day be voted from office, the Lodestars will bring trouble to Cordor."
P: "My inquiry is to root out just what -exactly- is your issue with them is. You say a breach of freedom, but when I ask, you state that you 'suspect' and that they 'could maybe' be misused, not that they are. Using your sword analogy again; any citizen could use one to murder another in cold blood, should we remove them??
H: "This is not a new debate. Last time they were used, many fled to escape them and now those of your own government step down in protest."
- This refers to Lord Aemon Waynolt who recently posted his public resignation because of his view of the Lodestar Network.
"I do not try to change the King's mind or yours. Guldorand will simply not aid them in their plans."
P: "This interview is about -you-, High Sheriff. Are you agreeing that your issue with the Lodestones is mere 'suspicion' and 'maybe's'?"
H: "I am honestly not sure how to explain my thoughts on the matter, any more than I can explain the feeling one gets when standing alone in the woods at night. There are some things in this world that are wrong, and you have no other reason to know such than the feeling in your soul."

For Vaeryll: Trial Notes (Copy)
Vaeryll,
Apologies for the rather messy notes compiled, but the Trial was... a headache. Below are the important notes.
- Accused: Izahne, former Guardswoman of Cordor, second-in-command of the Guard beneath Devon.
- Prosecution: Justiciar/High-Watcher Konstantin Helbrecht.
- Defence: Ryker, also of the Guard. - Presiding Judge: Chancellor Providence. - Verdict: Izahne found Guilty and "forbidden to participating in Government activity of any sort" under a condition - if those who's True Names she stole forgive her and give their blessings, she may be allowed to return. (I.E. Karathas, Tristan, etc.)
After passing her verdict, Chancellor Providence also announced that she would be stepping down as Chancellor as soon as the paperwork with Myon, regarding the condition, was filed.
The demi-God that bartered with Izahne for the True Names, the "Speaker of Fortunes", also attended in silence until the trial was over, at which point she tried to "clarify what she is and what her bargain with Izahne" was. She argued for Izahne, but it's understandable given they had a bargain, and this trial may discourage others from seeking further bargains or conversations with her.
I can answer any questions you may have, but I would recommend talking to Konstantin regarding his victory in the trial, and Providence regarding her standing down. Both would make good articles.

Deceit, Dishonour, and a Dangerous Mob
Violence, chaos, and fire erupted into the Square of Cordor recently as an armed mob took to the streets of our fair city, accusing the new Chancellor Konstantin Helbrecht of harbouring a Dark Elf! He and the then-inhabitants of the Church of Helm & the Triad were marched to the Palace by the Captain of the Palace Guard and his soldiers, presumably to answer questions.
While they were within, the mob took to destroying the entranceway of the Church, setting fires to the lumber and breaking the masonry of the building until most of the front had collapsed. Witnesses to the riot state that Storm, a Dwarven member of the Cordorian Navy and Riza Beoulve's Second-in-Command, took the shape of a dragon and breathed fire to engulf the building in flames!
Moments later, presumably after their questioning, the Chancellor and his retinue were released from the Palace after the mob had dispersed. Selfless and charitable Cordorians, not sharing the frenzied madness of the rioters, took to the soot and dirt, shifting through the rubble and repairing the front of the Church to its previous glory. The Chancellor echoed the Palace's judgement to the people; that he would be the defendant of a public trial, and that those who contributed to the sacking of the holy site would "meet the King's Justice."
It's not lost on the Press that this riot comes almost immediately after the Chancellor's victory. Ask yourself, dear reader, who benefits the most from this chaos? From Cordorians turning on one another, increasing the divide between citizen and citizen? To us in the Press, it's our opinion that none benefit more than those who failed in the elections. They cannot win the election through proper means, so they betray you and the other good people of Cordor with underhanded, deceitful, and dishonourable tactics in an attempt to steal it.
Question everything!

Ruminations of Rockenstock's Raze: Volume 1
Those of us who live and have grown up on the Archipelago of Arelith have come to know our home as being filled with a diverse menagerie of eccentric curiosities and bizarrely strange creatures. Today, I find myself with one such strange and peculiar being, an 'awakened' whale known as Cuan Gledhich. For those who do not know, awakened is a permanent state that is applied to an animal or object imbued with so much magic that they become sentient beings. Since being graced with the blessing of sentience, Cuan has taken up the druidic mantle of protecting the waters around the Arelith Archipelago.
It is here at the shipping port known as the Crows Nest, among the salted air and the sweaty sailors working for their daily wages that we sit down and discuss the death of Ruger Rockenstock. Cuan-Gledhich was actually patrolling the seas near the Recompensa Del Dana when it exploded. After an offering of two barrels of fine whiskey, Cuan Gledhich agreed to share with us his druidic insight and first eye point of view of the events leading up to that fateful day:
The Cordor Press (P): "Considering you have such a history of protecting the waters around Arelith, were you aware of the plan to kill the Dread Pirate Ruger Rockenstein?"
Cuan Gledich (CP): "I was nay involved in the operation at all. In fact, I'm mostly aware of the incident from hearing reports from my gull friends who were there. Of course, I saw the explosion as well."
(P): "So you didn't exactly witness the events leading up to the explosion yourself.. What can you tell me from those reports about what exactly happened on the Recompensa Del Dana before it went up in flames?"

(CP): "I didnae directly.. Nay. But my gull friends told me they saw Ruger's people fightin... Amnish folk, includin' one at the helm with a mask.. Was kinda nice mask but one that covered the whole face. When Ruger went to take the wheel, my Gull friend said things got very cold... then he collapsed and his body disappeared...The Amnian crew had been defeated and the battle had been done when Ruger touched the wheel."
(P): "So Ruger had thought he won. It sounds like the wheel had been enchanted with a trap... After Ruger's body disappeared, did any of his other crew perish too? We had reports that most escaped via a portal. Did your sources report anything other than the explosion?"
(CP): "Nay. His crew withdrew before the explosion.. And the crew of the Amnian ship were claimed by the blast..."
(P): "From your point of view and expertise, do you have any guesses as to how the Amnians were able to kill Ruger?"
(CP): "Well, I might be able to gather a little more information from the gulls and the creatures of the sea... give me a moment lass?"
(P): "Of course."
The large, sentient whale fell silent for a moment. Peering over the edge of the docks, I witnessed him as he started to hum beneath the ocean. The large eye that had been peering at me from below shut in a moment of concentration. Then, a large shutter that produced large ripples along the water around him as the loud humming quieted.
(CP): "The gull had seen a detail he had forgotten to mention that was very important... As soon as Ruger touched the Captain's wheel on the ship, he passed out... At the same time, there was a cold sensation that I can confirm is associated with the removal of a soul from a body... Right after a spell claimed Ruger's body whole as well.."
(P): "That sounds a lot like necromancy... Are you saying a spell from the school of necromancy was used to separate Ruger's soul and body?"

(CP): "Aye." The whale shutters again, no doubt from disgust at the topic at hand, "Stephen (the gull who witnessed it) is a good lad, but he doesn't have much direct knowledge of magic?"
(P): "Given your experience in defending these waters, do you have any concerns about the safety of maritime travellers after this event has taken place? Do you believe Ruger's crew may try to retaliate now that there is a power vacuum and they survived?"
(CP): "It's entirely possible that Ruger's crew might retaliate, but... if they do, I hope they have some sense, and keep it civil and don't damage the ocean in the process... Though, I do reckon if travellers are smart, careful, and ideally.. Not Amnian, they should be fine. Regardless of the side of the conflict.. If I can help ensure you do not perish on the waters, I will try, but I am only one Whale and this ocean is big."
(P): "All of the help you've given the archipelago in defending its waters will always be gratefully appreciated. Is there anything you'd like to say as a statement to the people of the Arelith Archipelago?"
(CP): "Not related to the incident with Ruger, but: Whatever you do on the oceans, be it explore, transport goods, or are a damn pirate....do not overfish or harm them... We're all a part of the same land and need to get along, aye?"
With the conversation said and done, the whale instructed two water elementals to take the barrels of whiskey I had procured for the arrangement. As he, the water elementals, and the booze disappeared into the sea, I am left with more questions than answers regarding the mysterious and well coveted circumstances around planning Rugers death.

Rockenstock's Ruin, Interview with Ambassador Valarde - Vol 1
Ambassador Valarde's office within the Amnian Embassy continues the d cor of the greater building around it. Intricate stonework lines the floor, covered here and there with expensive and foreign carpets, the room lit with golden candlesticks that carry warmly scented candles. Paintings of Athkatla and the beautiful scenery of Amn line the walls. The Ambassador is a dedicated man to both Cordor and Amn, which is precisely the reason why I am here to speak with him. He is flanked by a Cowled Wizard who is silent throughout the conversation, but nevertheless smiles at our jokes and memories of home. The Ambassador and I share cigars and reminisce before we begin the interview;
The Cordor Press (P): First of all, I'd like to say; thank you for taking the time to speak with the Press, Ambassador.
Ambassador Guillermo Valarde (A): But of course. I am always glad to avail myself to queries when able to do so.
P: To answer some questions the people may have, could you give a short summary of just what occurred out on the seas when Amn vanquished Ruger for, what we hope, is the last time?
A: I can assure that it will be the last time. To explain it briefly, and I admit I know not all the specifics; a combined arms force of the Amnish Navy and the Cowled Wizardx set out with a Galleon, soon to be decommissioned, the 'Recompensa del Dana' with the express intent of ensuring the demise of Ruger Rockenstocks was initiated. True to form, the Recompensa came under attack. Marines, Cowled Wizards, and Captain were all volunteers, understanding this was likely a mission to lead to their end.
In specific, the Recompensa herself had been turned into a trap that, once sprung by Ruger, would spell his demise. If it should fail, a secondary measure had been put into place, the one seen by many along the coast. I have it on confirmed authority by the Cowled Wizards that the primary portion of the trap did function and do its job. Ruger is no more.

Rockenstock's Ruin, Interview with Ambassador Valarde - Vol 2
P: What was the trap? I'll understand if you can?t be detailed given the nature of the incident.
A: It was designed particularly with his mindset and tactics to date in mind.
P: Was it just Ruger who perished, or his crew too?
A: His crew had been with him but were able to evacuate the ship via portal prior to the explosion which consumed it.
P: Why exactly was Ruger specifically chosen to be the recipient of the trap?
A: His extensive pirate activity in this region. Not only has he, as a Dread Pirate, harmed Amnish interests directly but his actions have contributed to instability of the seas in the Arelith region for a long time. A message had to be sent. Mind, this is not glorious - thirty Amnish crew on this operation, albeit volunteers, or in one case terminally ill, lost their lives to see Ruger ended. The only solace to be taken is that pirates of the Arelith Archipelago know that Amn means business.
P: A noble effort, and they all have our thanks. It is near impossible to put a figure on just how many lives Ruger affected; sailors, families of sailors, merchant backers, soldiers. In the long run, you've likely saved a great deal of lives.
A: Precisely. It is never an easy thing to commit to such an operation, but you are right. The lives spared number more greatly.
P: Are there any names you wish to thank publicly for this operation?
A: Signora Capitaine Maria DeCello. In spite of her affliction, she was willing to serve as Captain on this mission, her brother's ship was claimed by pirates of the region, certainly led by Ruger.
P: Finally, do you have anything to say to the public? Reassurance, or warning to those who might seek revenge?
A: A mixture of both. Those who seek only to trade or explore the High Seas have naught to fear from Amn. There is plenty of the Trackless Sea for all. However, for those who wish to loot, plunder and destroy? There is naught but death awaiting you.

The Death of Theodor Helbrecht, Vol I
Dear readers, we bring you news; Theodor Helbrecht, who was prisoner within the Cordor Jail for little over a tenday now, has met with his (hopefully) final and true death at the hands of Cordor and its citizens.
Chancellor Providence oversaw the execution, with Justiciar Dra'gos Rivorndir fulfilling the legal requirements of the sentencing and execution, while Magistrate & High-Watcher Konstantin Helbrecht, integral in the capture of Theodor, assisted. Gauntlet members, the Church of Helm, Rivorndir Wardens and the City Guard ensured that, should a rescue attempt be made, the execution would continue unaffected. After being sentenced to death, Konstantin offered his brother the chance of a final word. The judged was unable to finish it, however, as he soon began contorting in pain as something from within him began to activate.
Theodor was slain in an attempt to stop his ill-intent, but it was too late. A rift opened within the jail, and a tide of vicious Fiends poured out of it, intent on slaying "the brother" - Konstantin Helbrecht. The creatures were met with righteous Cordorian steel, and they were beat back into their own realm before the rift was closed. As the gathered rested, Lord Valros Rivorndir, a Kossuthan priest, attended to Theodor's remains - coating him in sanctified oil before purifying his remains and soul in the eternal Holy flames of the Firelord, consumed until there was nothing left, not even ash.
Before his execution, however, Theodor gave some words for the Press, that we will publish here unedited;
"My story may end, but with my end many new ones will begin. There will be others like me, worse than me. It is inevitable. But to me, I only ever had one goal. One purpose." At this point, Theodor levels a hard stare at Konstantin. "Planning ahead and ensuring contingencies. This is important. But the Tapestry of Life will never finish its story. Even with my death."

These are, as I'm sure you're aware, the last words of a madman who knew that only death awaited him. Death that would, in all likelihood, be celebrated by those that witnessed it. This is a man who sought only pain, and suffering, and death upon our citizens and allies - ask anyone who interacted with him and they will tell you a story of his cold brutality. Even the Cordor Press' owner, Drad An'ash, recalls the first time he met with Theodor Helbrecht;
"When I first met him, the man was skinning the ears off a poor Elf's decapitated head in the Shadovar. Said he intended to make some jewellery with it for his Queen, something about a necklace. The man will spin some self-righteous rhetoric to validate what he did, but in the end, the man is a monster. A beast. A very cunning and intelligent beast, but a beast nonetheless."
He threatens that there will be more like him - worse even - but this is the end of Theodor's story. There will be more threats, there always are, but the history of our city shows one true fact; whatever happens, whoever rises to challenge us, Cordor prevails. We prevail, good reader, in whatever darkness or entity turns its gaze and might against us. The citizens change, the Chancellor changes, the buildings change, the Cabinet and Guard change, but throughout all this change for as long as our histories record, Cordor has prevailed.
Remember this, dear reader, and find safety in it. That no matter how dark the night gets before the dawn, that no matter what evil rears its ugly evil head to bite, what seedy criminals rise up from the underbelly of the city, what outside threats try to probe inward, good people like you are the reason that Cordor prevails.
Now, and always.

Cordor's Flagship Sank by Andunor!
Cordor's flagship "Leviathan", captained by Admiral Riza Beoluve, and a crew of over a dozen souls, were recently sunk by Andunor's "Dreadnaught." A number of allied surface forces; Guldorand, Gauntlet, Knights of Silvermane, Cordor, and Cordorian Officials, fell to the infamous Gorehound and his large crew. Sources from below state that Khael'dar has also claimed responsibility for the event.
The two ships exchanged a great deal of fire; the Leviathan with a bombard, the Dreadnaught with a volley of ballistae. When the Dreadnaught's weaponry proved superior, the Leviathan taking far more damage than the other, Admiral Riza made the call to board the Dreadnaught. Steel was drawn, grapples thrown, and the Leviathan's crew boarded the vessel before being mercilessly cut down in only a few moments.
Selfless guardians of the surface, hunted across the waters by a smoke-billowing monstrosity, crewed by sadistic monsters who want nothing less than to enslave or murder our families and friends. Opinions of the incident are mixed, with one question being asked repeatedly by both those we spoke to; why was the decision to board the ship made? One Cordorian asked; "the Dreadnaught is a floating brick, it is easily out-sailed. Why would you board if you're already outgonned?" Another said; "boarding a ship is the most dangerous action in naval combat. Would have been far less casualties to sink it or flee to fight again another day." One survivor of the conflict stated; "I am not sure Riza is the reputable sailor everyone claims her to be."
Whether this was a genuine mistake, an order given in chaotic battle, or a tragic failure in command, who can say? Regardless, our hearts go out to the friends and families of those that perished in protection of our city and the surface as a whole, and we at the Press give our deepest condolences for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for people like you and I, dear reader.

Andunorian Forces Attack Cordorians!
Good Cordorians, we bring terrible tidings once more. News has reached us of an Andunorian attack not five days ago on simple adventurers within Cordorian territory. A group of three adventurers; two Humans and a Halfling, new to the city and out on writs assigned by the agency, took to the Bramble Woods in order to cull a few of the Goblins that border the farmlands of our great city. Between their start and their destination however, they were set upon by Andunorian forces..
Instead of Goblins, they found four Drow within the forest, armed and armoured to the teeth in blackened garb under the cover of darkness. They spoke in a language that the adventurers state they did not understand, but switched to Common after a moment of discussion amongst themselves. They named one another "Spider", and spoke of a "Khael'dar". The adventurers, sensing trouble inbound, made their apologies and stated intent to leave before turning around where they were immediately set upon without command or mercy.
These poor three, still with salt in their hair from the long sail from the mainland, fresh-faced and new to wielding a sword, let alone the violence of this isle as a whole, were butchered and had their remains desecrated as trophies were taken. By the Grace of the Gods however, they were returned to us and limped to Cordor to tell their tale, which we are now telling to you.
Good Cordorians, we plead with you; show caution on the Trade Road and in the Bramble Woods. There is no way to tell if these murderous dogs will return to prey upon our common folk, seeking slaves or blood sport. Carry a Portal Lense if possible, and use it to escape to safety should you see a warded group dressed in black speaking the tongues of the Underdark. They carried swords and shields, a staff, and daggers. Return to the city and alert the Guard and the people!

Chancellor Providence & Missing Millions
Good Cordorians and those beyond, a new Chancellor has taken to the seat! A three-person race between Trade Minister Vermicello, Lutien of the Crimson Blades, and Doctor Providence of the Healer's Association.
The race was remarkably tame by Cordorian standards - no overuse of the Town Criers, no libel launched from anonymous letters, however sources do inform the Press that an assassination contract was placed on Providence during, and several shadowy and armed figures were seen asking for her in a threatening manner.
Providence was declared the far favourite by the good Cordorian people, obtaining the majority of votes and favor from the larger factions that exist within Cordor. On the day of her victory, Providence gave a question-and-answer session in the Town Hall that covered a number of topics, which we shall summarise below;
+ General Cassandra replaced General Riza. Riza made Admiral below General.
+ Devon Marshall made the Justice Ministry "Annalist", to "dot the i's and cross the t's"
+ Only using the Lodestar Network in dire circumstances, and letting the populace know.
+ Maintaining surgery in spare time.
+ Forming of an auxiliary force made up by volunteers from long-respected and notable Cordorian factions.
The Rothe in the room though was obviously the missing Cordorian millions, taken before the race had even begun. Nearly thirteen million gold missing, an outright treasonous amount of money. We continue to narrow down who was responsible, but one noticeable person has already disappeared; past-Chancellor Seamus.
Not seen since the election vote was called, Seamus has disappeared from both the city and the isle, seen by none since - in person or scrying, and Speedy Messengers claim not to find him at any time of day. Is it possible that he took the gold, or is another member of the old cabinet responsible? Ex-General Riza Beoluve? Trade Minister Vermicello? Which cabinet members had access to the accounts? The people demand to know!

Beshaba's Bad Breath
If you're a Cordorian citizen that often walks our historic and cobbled streets, then we're sure you've seen a few new wooden additions to the city that keep disappearing and reappearing in different places. We are, of course, referring to the threatening and ominous signs posted by followers of The Maiden of Misfortune, Beshaba.
Do not misunderstand us in this article. Beshaba, like Umberlee, is often paid respects and offerings, with worry that one might meet a disaster at the hands of a vengeful God otherwise. After all, some are far luckier than others should Tymora smile upon them.
These signs, however, seem to us to have a more hidden intent. Beshaba already has a seat in Cordor in the Fickle Finger, and has done so for a long time, seeing reverence and denomination from many over the years. These menacing signs would have you believe that simply giving to them, the creators of the sign, that her presence will "shield you from it", and that to commit fully will make "misfortune an ally."
These are not the words of any marked official, or known priest. They bear no sigils or symbols, or prayers. These are the anonymous threats of a gang of crooks, relying on fear and doubt to line their own pockets, or an upstart cult who wishes to sow terror among our fair citizens.
Do not bow to fear, good reader. Give reverence and your hard-earned coin as you see fit, not to how crooks that hide behind anonymity dictate. Do not bow to tyranny, for you are far better and stronger than that. Believe in yourself and in your neighbours, look to and protect one another, and we will weather any misfortune safely together.

The First Great Arelith Bake Off
A few days ago, the Whidershin Fairgrounds saw the first annual Great Arelith Bake Off & Food Festival, a celebration of the culinary and everything savory, succulent, and scrumptious!
Dozens of people joined the merry-making, mingling and conversing with one another as they ate and drank from much of the free food, drink, and treats, while watching some of Arelith's best bakers compete head-to-head in a competition to determine who, for this year, was Arelith's Star Baker!
The contestants were;
- Ginny Fairlen, who's rustic and simple cooking (and bacon) proved to be an audience favourite.
- Narr Nolkus, who's alchemical strangeness was loved by all, minus the judges.
- Clodagh, the runner-up to the victor by only two points! Her outside-the-box and unique approach to the competition was praised by the judges.
- Ebon, Cordor's own gourmet-street chef, was the victor of the Bake Off and was thus named Arelith's Star Baker, 174 AR!
You can't have a competition without judges, though, and they were;
- High-Watcher Konstantin Helbrecht, who's praise was methodical, punctual, and very witty.
- Lady Antoinette Rivorndir, who showed her love for all things baking.
- Vald Machjarak, who's unique views showed in his interesting and often hilarious score-giving!
Held by Drad An'ash of the Rivorndir Wardens, the festival received high praise by the attendees, who laughed aplenty during the competition. Could this be the start of an annual occurrence? Seems the audience hoped so! If you fancy a shot at the fifty-thousand coins or coupon, if you think you can give Ebon's baking a run for her money, then hopefully there'll be another competition next year. YOU could be Arelith's next Star Baker!
