"On Chaos," a sermon by Matron Araj Sh'yalva 184 AR

Today we will explore the question: What is Chaos? Scholars and philosophers can debate its nature into eternity. But for us it is simple. Chaos is a gift. Chaos is a test. It has been said existence is empty without Chaos, and many here can attest to that.

The whirl of the battlefield, the turn of wind and wave on the sea, even magic - or at least some kinds of it. The infinite variety Lolth provides to us is a generous gift! A panoply of opportunity laid before us, or against us. Variety, after all, encompasses more than the pleasant and the beneficial.

Arrayed against us, such Chaos can be a test and we regard all tests as gifts, do we not? But every rich gift bestowed upon us is owed back to Her a thousand times over. Our Dark Mother is pleased when our Chaos reflects hers, when our actions vibrate through the web for her to observe.

So do not passively accept the Chaos of the moment, join in! Test others as you are tested, multiply the glories of our Queen, bring her Chaos to your doings small and large! Please her with the variety you bring before her!

For her pleasure is all that matters!
