Zhaun'ol del lil Orbb Vol.1: The Yath
Drow owe their very existence to the great goddess Lolth. Known as the Dark Mother, Flesh Carver, the Weaver of Webs, the Spider Queen is the all to her chosen people the Drow. As the chosen of the Goddess, all drow are her meat. Priestesses of the Spider Queen exist only to provide their goddess with food and pleasure. This is the one truth in the faith of Lolth. That all are her meat. Those drow who grow strong in the dark world Lolth has set for them learn to embrace this truth. They do not fear it. They embrace it, knowing that their time will come, one way or the other. Life is but a fleeting dance between predator and prey. Eventually all are torn apart and devoured.
Lolth demands of her clergy barrels upon barrels of blood. Weekly offerings must be made. All priestesses must meet Lolths demand for blood. A priestess who regularly fails to saint the Queens thirst will lose favor. For this reason, the Yath must vigorously seek out blasphemers, surfacers, and law breakers for the altars. A recommended practice for each priestess is to solicit informants to report crimes and blasphemies to them on a regular basis.
Malla Lolth prefers Drow meat above all others. Thought it is common practice among the Yath to avoid overindulging the goddesss sweet tooth. To many such offerings curtail the population and strength of Lolths chosen people. Her offerings should be healthy individuals. Blood offerings are usually taken from among slaves and captured enemies. Her offerings should be healthy individuals. Do not dare offer Lolth those that are too young, or sick or feeble. The more powerful the offering the better. When offering non drow, the queen prefers intelligent humanoids, especially elves. To join the sisterhood of Lolth those that are too young, or sick or feeble. The more powerful the offering the better. When offering non drow, the queen prefers intelligent humanoids, especially elves. To join the sisterhood of the Yath does not protect one from Lolths altar, the goddess likes the blood of her priestesses most of all! It is advised to always have a sister-or-two ready to betray your other sisters in case they should betray you.
No one is above a visit to the temple feeding chamber. When choosing offerings from amongst fellow drow, one must be wary of who those drow may serve. Offering a higher ranked priestesses informant can bring severe punishment. When no blood can be offered, Lolth will accept valuable gemstones. Be warned, going to long without feeding Lolth her meat has found many a Yathrin strapped to her sisters altar.
Among the Yath, tradition, status and power are paramount. All Yathabbanen bow before the Yathrinen and Yathtellaren and all Yathrinen bow before the Yathtellaren. The Ulathtallar is the Arch Priestess of the temple and the Arch Mistress of Arch TInilith the academy of Priestesses. Failure for a lower ranked priestess to show respect to a higher ranked priestess can be severely punished, though if there is to be and what that punishment will be is on a case by case basis and up to the discretion of the offended ranking Yath.
Love, friendship, admiration, leaves one open to betrayal. While fear is like armor it protects the one it is directed towards.
Nonbeliever drow can be considered any drow that does not follow the traditions set forth by Lolth and her Yath must be culled and converted. Their behavior is to be reported to the first priestess they report to. If they have no priestess to report to, the priestess present may punish the transgression immediately and issue an adjustment.
Any drow who openly follows deities other than Lolth, Selvetarm or Kiaransalee should be considered impugning upon the faith and a heretic. All heretics must be eliminated.
Teach all drow to praise and fear Lolth. Encourage other drow women to join the Yath. To question the motives, wisdom, or tradition of the Spider Queen is a sin, as is aiding nondrow against the drow, or ignoring Lolths commands for the sake of a lover. Revere arachnids of all kinds.
