The author of this time recognizes that messages inside letters are sent from person to person, and posted on boards across the realms everyday, in the thousands. These letters are read by all sortsof people, from the deliverer, to the intended target, and to the writer. But they may also be read by further unwanted individuals in-between.

Ciphers exist to encrypt these messages so they cannot be read en-route. If written further in a language unknown to the reader, it can make getting understanding of the message difficult.

But the most incredible feat of Ciphers is their invisibility to the peering eye of a scrier. In ciphers, even the scrier is forced to attempt decryption in a short, often unreasonable time to read a message of the entirely mundane that cannot be broken down or understood with a spell.
