The depths, the waves, the seas themselves call to her. Lenore Hummal, once a meek and sheltered noblewoman, now stands on the precipice of her own unraveling. The ocean whispers to her, its voice a seductive blend of rage and power. A lifetime of running from herself, hidden behind the walls of her ivory tower, has left her hollow. But now, the sea fills that void with something darker, something primal. One must question: was she there to be protected, or to protect the world from the storm brewing within her...

Rylan, the pirate captain with a devil's grin and a heart as untamed as the waves, has always known how to push her buttons. He dodges her punches with the ease of a man who's spent a lifetime dancing on the edge of danger. He keeps her frustrated, keeps her smiling, keeps her alive. He knows he has her, and she hates him for it, hates the way he makes her feel, the way he makes her forget the life she left behind...

They collapse onto the floor, breathless and tangled in each other, the remnants of a shattered table scattered around them. Rylan laughs, a low, dark sound that sends shivers down Lenore's spine. He inspects the broken table leg with a smirk before tossing it aside and pulling her into his arms. His lips brush against the back of her head, a gesture so tender it almost makes her forget the chaos they've just unleashed.

"We'll be in port by morning," he murmurs, his voice rough and breathless. "I know you don't want me to come with ya, but I'd feel better if I did."

Lenore stiffens, the weight of his words pressing down on her. "They would kill you, Rylan. If I go alone, I can confront my father and leave without bloodshed. You can pick me up here in a month?s time. You'll wait for me... right?" Her fingers thread through his hair, pulling him closer, as if she could anchor him to her forever.

((The next few pages... Again! Good gods. I need to drink some water for them. Well, that's a use for the broken table... feck, there goes the chair, and...wait, what was...))

A deafening explosion shatters the moment, jolting them back to reality. Rylan is on his feet in an instant, his body tense and ready for battle. Lenore tosses him his trousers with a smirk, but the playful glint in her eyes is quickly replaced by something darker as the sounds of chaos erupt on the deck above.

The Kraken of Calimport looms in the darkness, its crimson sails glowing like blood in the firelight. The warship of her homeland, a symbol of everything Lenore once believed in, now strides aside the Gambit. Steel clashes against steel, spells light up the night, and the air is thick with the stench of gunpowder and blood.

"Get below deck!" Rylan barks, his voice cutting through the chaos. But Lenore doesn't move. She's frozen, her eyes locked on the Kraken, the men aboard once from her home. As she thinks of the slavers ship, and those held below as cargo the rage inside her burns hotter, fueled by the betrayal of her own blood.

Rylan charges into the fray, his blade a blur of silver as he cuts down Calimport's soldiers with ruthless efficiency. Lenore watches, entranced by the raw power of him, by the way he moves like a force of nature. But her admiration is short-lived as a strong arm grabs her shoulder, yanking her back.

"Lady Hummal, stand behind me!" Hendricks voice is cold and commanding, but Lenore doesn't obey. She struggles against the soldiers holding her, her cries piercing the night as she calls out to Rylan.

Rylan hearing his name on her breath, his head snapping toward her just as Hendricks lunges at him with a dagger. The two men clash, their blades ringing out in the night, but Rylan's focus is split. He can't afford to lose her... not now, not ever.

The rage inside Lenore is a living thing, a storm that threatens to consume her. She thinks of her father, of the lies he told, of the blood money that built their fortune. She thinks of the cold, lifeless halls of her childhood home, of the paintings that mocked the beauty of the world outside. And she thinks of Rylan, of the way he makes her feel alive, even as he drives her mad...

A voice, deep and ancient, whispers in her mind. It's the voice of the sea, of the depths that have called to her since the moment she stepped onto the deck of the Gambit.  

"Poor, weak little one... alone in a turbulent tide. Too powerless to save those around you. Not enough will or strength to even fight the tides of your life..."  

Lenore's fire falters, doused by the icy grip of the voice. Fear claws at her, but beneath it lies something darker, something hungry.  

"Who are you?" she whispers, her voice trembling.  

A deep, callous chuckle reverberates through her very soul. "The *who* is not what matters, little one. What I can offer you does... Do you want to save them?"  

Lenore's eyes dart across the battlefield. The Gambit?s crew is outnumbered, battered and bleeding. Hendricks has Rylan pinned, his dagger poised to strike. The gonne shooters on the Kraken take aim, their fuses burning down to the powder.  

"Yes," she growls, her voice low and dangerous. "I want to save them. I want to end this!" 

The voice laughs, a sound like the crashing of waves against jagged rocks. "Then take it. Take the power. Let the depths rise within you."  

Ice floods her veins, spreading from her heart to her fingertips. She feels the ocean's fury, its cold, unrelenting power. It's hers now, an extension of her will. She lifts a hand, and the sea obeys.  

Jagged spears of ice erupt from the water, tearing through the Kraken's hull. Screams fill the air as the warship is engulfed by her wrath. The gonne shooters are impaled, their weapons silenced before they can fire. Hendricks freezes, his dagger inches from Rylan's throat, as the ice creeps up his legs, trapping him in place.  

Hendrick was no stranger to her. he had been the guard captain of her hometown, a man who had once stood for order. But now, he was just another enemy, his blade flashing in the firelight as he clashed with Rylan, pinned to the deck he screamed with rage as his skilled sabre cut through the night sky clashing with Rylan's blade. Lenore had tried to stay back, to let the crew handle it, but something inside her had snapped.

The power surged through her, unbidden, as Hendrick's sneering face filled her vision. She remembered the way he had looked at her when she was just a girl, the way he had dismissed her, belittled her. The rage burned hotter than the flames around them, and before she could stop herself, she had unleashed it.

Ice erupted from her hands, jagged and cruel, piercing Hendrick's chest before he could even raise his sword. His eyes widened in shock, his mouth opening as if to speak, but no words came. He fell to the deck, his body frozen solid, his face forever locked in that moment of disbelief.

Lenore stared at his lifeless form, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The power had felt good?too good. It had been effortless, like breathing, and for a moment, she had reveled in it. But now, as the adrenaline faded, she felt sick. She had killed him not out of necessity, but out of rage. And worse, she had enjoyed it.

Rylan stares at Lenore, his eyes wide with shock and something else?something like fear. "Lenore..." he whispers, her name a prayer on his lips.  

But Lenore doesn't hear him. She's lost in the depths, in the power that courses through her. The voice laughs again, dark and triumphant.  

"Welcome home, little one."  The cold voice cackles in her mind as the world fades to black around her...
