The cover of this book bears no art, it is bound in deep black leather. It seems too heavy for its small size and leaves you with an odd sensation.... then you place it. Holding it is like remembering a promise you've made to a loved one then broken.

"Cricket, cricket, Skree, Who, Who" The gentle song of night plays its lullaby. The soft trickle of a small stream feeding into a small pond. "Splish, Splash" of small feet paddling happily and a gravelly giggle. Suddenly a twig "SNAP!!" and the forest goes silent... The small ochre coloured goblin girl tries to be brave "Who Is?" she says with a small waver...

A Hin, dishevelled and dirty, swatting at the flies trying to adore him gently pushes through the foliage. The instant their eyes meet they feel it. Connection, deep and unfathomable. They sit together talking and giggling until the first sun's rays challenge night once again.

"A HIN?! A FILTHY HIN!!??" The chiefess slavers ashe she shouts at Truxiette "Never!! Is Declared: Iz So's!!" The whole clan Thump-Crashing anything to hand and echoing "IZ SO'S, IZ SO'S!!". Beaten and bitten and relegated to sleeping on the very coldest edges of the Gob pile, Truxiette lives an empty half-life...

"A GOBLIN?! A FILTHY HIN!!?? How could you?? This is against EVERYTHING the Dale stands for!!" Looks of distrust, disgust and hatred are all Diego finds in his once warm and welcoming community. Diego lives and empty half-life...

"Cricket, cricket, Skree, who, who" The same soft trickle...

A Hin and a Goblin embrace in the moonlight. They google at their own faces on teh waters surface but then... Their reflections, gently rippling, show themselves framed by forest on a backdrop of stars. Peering into that infinite, hopeful scene they immediately make a pact, a vow to each other. "I am yours, for eternity" He says to her "And you are mines" she responds. An eternity in an instant of an embrace...

"GET AWAY FROM THAT DIGUSTING CREATURE!!" The chifess's rockslide voice bellows! "NO'S!!" Truxiette stands. Defiant, resolute. Truxiette and Diego's be's together FOREV... "HISS-thhWP" an arrow lodges in the chiefess's throat. Her confused death gurgles drowned out by the blaring of hin war horns and angry voices "GOBLINS IN THE DALE!! TO ARMS TO ARMS!!" The goblins reply in kind "Gagjee Gagju!! ATTACK'S!!!"...

The air around the lovers fills with arrows, blood, steel and screams. Caught up in the whirlwind of battle they are pulled further and further apart, each one calling out, screaming with every ounce of their being as the words became silently lost in the deafening chaos.

Not a single soul survived. No one was spared the hate filled carnage that would forever stain that tiny grove. Some say that to this day if you find yourself there on a quiet night you can still hear the faint din of battle and perhaps the longing howls of lovers eternally just out of reach... Or maybe that was just the wind.
